Welcome to Mount Tinder's Annual Climb!
“You be good for your Papa, okay?” The mother gorgi reiterated for what seemed like the millionth time to her pup. He just nodded in agreement, once again. “Yes, mama,” was all she needed before departing, giving her father a quick kiss on the cheek.
The young gorgi talked and talked to Papa about his summer as they walked; less walking together and more the pup helping Papa. On and on he prattled about with some chuckles, hums, and haws as response and encouragement to continue. The pup carefully led his Papa back into his home and into his favorite chair.
The first thing he noticed was the hearth had been dusted and cleaned, tidied up. As if it was being used, not just a quick tidy for company. Next to the painted portrait of his grandmother’s photo was a brass… cup? It was resting on a small tray with a lid atop, recently polished to a perfect gleam; he could still smell the polish.
“Papa?” He waited for a hum of acknowledgement. “What is this cup thing?”
Papa just smiled, his bushy eyebrows raising at the question, a fond look in his eye. “That is the first Tinder coal I ever got your grandmother when we were mated.”
So that was why the portrait was next to it, more of an altar than a hearth and obviously sentimental… but Tinder? “You mean Mount Tinder? The volcano?” There was a tone of bewilderment and disbelief. “You got a coal from Mount Tinder?”
The old terrier just laughed, a little wheeze as it trailed off. “When I was younger, much younger, I was so excited to get your grandmother a Tinder coal. To warm our hearts and home, to bring us luck,” he looked to the portrait and smiled again. “I’d say I did a pretty good job myself. –
Every summer, someone from every home takes a rock from the mainland and brings it to Mount Tinder. The climb was rough, back in my day there was no trail to the top, we had to make our own. Now there’s a trail, I think. There’s an altar at the top, just inside the basin; you’d think it’d be covered in soot, but no it’s always pristine, I’m not quite sure how. You can’t see it from down here, you’d have to be up top. Anyway, you take that rock you brought and roll it in the soot there and leave it. Then you take a Tinder coal and head back down.”
The pup had slowly made his way to sit next to his grandfather as the old terrier told his story. “What do you do with it then?”
“Well, you put it on your hearth and according to legend, it brings your household good luck,” he said, pointing to the small brazier that held that first coal. “I kept this one safe because it was our first coal. It’s special to me. We bring rocks from the mainland to Mount Tinder to unify the land and keep the stories of our ancestors going.”
The pup’s eyes were as wide as saucers. “What kind of stories?”
Papa just grinned, a cheeky look on his face. “That’s for another time.”
Ashes fall from the sky as you near the volcano. Odd, as it’s not erupting, but you allow the magic to do what it will. You know that Mount Tinder is always active to a degree, lava constantly pooled within, but that it is safe to climb.
And climb it you shall.
It’s the time of year for you to bring your stone to the top, and trade it for a new one to bring warmth to the home. This is your duty as the chosen one of your household. How will you decide to travel?
Welcome everyone to Gorgi’s second Mount Tinder event! Like its sister event, Snowpeak, this will be a ladder prompt event. However, we’ve added the fun of a Choose Your Own Adventure to our prompts! They will all end the same, but this will allow for everyone to have their own, unique adventure as they climb to the top of the volcano.
This event will be introducing lots of Gorgi lore this year and unlocking lots more fun future possibilities! Be sure to read mod responses and your prompts carefully to piece together tidbits of lore, all of which will be written up more clearly at the end of the event with our large combo-finale tying into our current discord event! Everything will be cataloged for future referencing.
How to join
Your first task? Pick your adventurer gorgi! Don’t have a gorgi? No problem! If you are a new member without a gorgi, you can ask a friend to ‘borrow’ their gorgi for the adventure! If nobody has a gorgi to use, all players have permission to use RILEY.
The same gorgi must be used for all of your prompt submissions, as it’s meant to be a complete story! Ideally everyone should be using a different gorgi, but if you and your friend need to use the same gorgi, we will understand! The exception to this rule is if you are borrowing a gorgi and later gain one of your own - we will allow one gorgi change in this case, though you will have to message a moderator to inform us of this change.
Wait! What if my gorgi is disabled?
They can still join! You have two choices; you can ask a friend who owns an able-bodied gorgi to assist your gorgi in traversing the mountain or your gorgi can assist from the shore of Benbrooke.
If you choose the first option, this will be full collaboration. Both players must contribute an even 50/50. For example, Player 1 sketches and lines while Player 2 colors and shades; or Player 1 sketches and shades while Player 2 lines and colors. Figure out between your collaboration partner how you want to plan your workload out AND discuss how to approach each prompt. If you choose to collaborate on writing, both gorgis must have equal screen time.
If you choose the second option, then your gorgi will assist from the shores of Benbrooke. These gorgis will have their own prompt ladder! Just let us know so we can accomodate.
The journey
Now that your gorgi is all picked out, you’ll need to get ready for a six-prompt adventure! Comment below to begin your adventure. Your first comment should simply state that you plan to partake, and include a link to the masterlist page of the gorgi you plan to use. If your gorgi is not yet on the masterlist we will allow an outside link/image, since we are still porting everything over! We recommend submitting prompts as you finish them so that you can see how each of your pieces is graded and where you might need to focus more in the future.
Below is a sneak peak of the ladder in its entirety. Please note that the CYOA has prompt splits and read the staff notes on your prompt submissions each time to get a proper hyperlink to your next prompt so you don't end up doing more than needed!
how it works
This year, Mount Tinder will be a Choose Your Own Adventure prompt ladder! This means that you will complete each prompt in a specific order. We have 12 prompts total, and each of you will complete six of them in a designated order. They must be completed within the four-week span of the event in order to fully “climb” Mount Tinder and get your ticket into the magma-gore adopt raffle!
As the last section mentions, you begin your journey with a comment below so that we may keep track easier. Prompts must be posted in order, or they will not count! Steps and items will be rewarded upon prompt completion. All of these process through staff approval so that we can adjust your step award accordingly! If you are skipping prompts or doing them out of order your submission will be denied. It can be resubmitted when the skipped prompts are completed properly. Please read staff comments on your prompt approval to get the correct follow up prompt for your specific path. Steps are the currency for this event, and each step is equal to one biscuit. As such, you will be able to exchange your steps for biscuits after the event ends if you do not use them!
You can view how many Mount Tinder Steps you have at any time by going to your BANK!
Instead of comment chain prompts this year: prompts will need to be submitted through our PROMPT PAGE.
Your other redemption options are gachas and our grand prize raffle! We have a 'step shop' and an adopt gacha running this year. They are just as they sound - the first will contain items such as vouchers, pets, myos and biscuits, and the second will contain pre-made adopts.
The other option, as mentioned, is to redeem your steps for extra tickets to our grand-prize raffle for a pre-made gorgi with magma gore! Upon completion of the prompt ladder, you will receive your first ticket. You cannot purchase any other tickets for this raffle until you have completed the prompt ladder and gained your first entry. Additional tickets will be 500 steps each. Adopts with this gore can ONLY be found during this event, meaning this will be the only adopt with this gore until the next Mount Tinder comes around next year!
Obtaining additional raffle tickets will be done so by crafting a recipe out of 500 Steps. More information on this will be released on the 28th when shops open!
It is important to keep in mind that there are only so many steps you can earn in this event. Once you finish the prompt ladder, you are done. Unless you have items that allow you to do so, you cannot go back and edit previous prompts to earn more points. For that reason, please take your time, and enjoy your travels up Mount Tinder. Aim for maximum points the first time, and think carefully on where you plan to spend your steps.

grading system
The grading system for this event is very similar to our currency system, though it does have it’s differences. Please be sure to read over them to ensure you know the differences and are not surprised by the steps you earn. If you have any questions or concerns about the steps you earned for a prompt, please feel free to contact any member of staff!
Please note that there is a 1000 step cap earned per prompt submission whether you're drawing, writing, or using a mix of both!
ARTWORK
Sketch = x0.25 stepsShaded: x1.5 (Shading should be consistently present in the piece. Minor shading in only some areas will not count.)
Do remember; your skill as an artist will never be judged. It is the effort you put in.
WRITING
Minimum word requirement: 250 words
Steps awarded are on a 2:1 scale. Meaning if you write 500 words, you will receive 250 steps. However, these numbers are capped at 2000 words or 1000 steps. You can write over this, but you will not receive any steps past 1000.
Misspellings will not affect your grade, within reason. If we cannot understand what you are trying to say, we may ask that you read over your writing and adjust accordingly. This isn’t an English research paper; we’re not grading you for proper English.
While you may include song lyrics in your writing, they will not be applied to word count.
UNLOCKS & SHOPS
As mentioned before, there are multiple ways to use your steps. Shops and gachas will open June 28th
CURRENCY CONVERSION ---- 1 step -> 1 biscuit
Biscuits cannot be converted back into steps!
Anything else?
Feel free to ask questions in the comments or on the discord!
Mount Tinder will end on July 12th at 11:59PM PST. Good travels to you all!
