Submission (#35) Approved

The first day on the mountain was rough. The skies soon grew dark as NyxNyx needed to create a campfire. She walked up to an area under a cliff, and it seems to be a good place to camp for the night. She started to look around and look for materials. She found some sticks near the bushes, though she’ll need to dry them off first. She found some rocks and brought them back under the cliff. She placed the rocks in a circle shape and placed the sticks in the middle. She used her breath and body heat to dry the sticks up.

She creates a fire when the sticks are dry as it reaches nighttime. The snow had stopped fluttering down. She had already made a nice comfy den using straw, leaves, and thick branches from the trees around. She was preparing to warm up and cook something to eat when she heard a strange noise. She looked around but nothing was there. Maybe it’s just the wind.

She took out a chunk of beef and put on a stick. While it’s cooking, she thinks about what she’ll do at the top of the mountain. Maybe dance around? Sit down and enjoy the view? Explore around? Ski back down? Nah that’s too dangerous. She gobbled down the chunk of meat when it was done cooking and continued with other types of meat.

She realized she still has that ice chunk from early on. She placed it near the fire and it slowly started to melt. Inside was a rope bundle that seems used but still sturdy. Maybe she’ll keep it for future use.

Just then, she heard the strange noise again. It sounded soft, yet sudden. Like a soft howl but a deep growl. She went around and looked around. But she couldn’t find what was making the noise. She went back under the cliff as large shadows approached her. She turned around and it was a pack of wolves! The wolves were curious and wanted food. Their eyes glazed at the meat cooking above the fire. They gave a soft growl and Nyx stepped back. The wolves moved in closer and walked towards the fire. Nyx stumbles away quickly, not wanting to fight over a piece of meat. She realized her stash of food was near the fire. Great, she has no food left.

She went under a tree a couple of yards away. She has lost all her food and her campsite. Nyx wonders what she should do, without food she’ll starve. She walks back slowly and sees the wolves gone, but the whole area trashed up. The food is gone, the fire is distinguished, and the den is all messed up. She sighed and felt upset and angry at the wolves. Stuck without food, how will she be able to live?

Nyx went and made a fire once again and cleaned up her den. It is now midnight and she felt very exhausted from staying up all night and having to deal with the wolves. She tries to snuggle up in her den and stay warm. She closed her eyes and quickly fell asleep. The winds grew softer throughout the night. The next day will be a harsher adventure…an adventure without food.
